This Level 6 Qualification is designed to provide learners with the opportunity to develop creative expression by learning an applied range of complementary Art and Design skills and processes. Students will study a wide range of units including Digital Media, Life Drawing, Printmaking and Typography.
This course is suitable for school leavers and mature adult returners who are re-entering education and who have some knowledge, understanding or skills relating to Art and Design.

Upon successful completion, candidates will achieve the following awards;

  • NC Art & Design at SCQF Level 6

The course is full-time with delivery on campus over three days, for 36 weeks.

Entry requirements

Entry is at the discretion of the centre, candidates would normally be expected to have some knowledge, understanding or skills relating to Art & Design. Candidates should be prepared to present a portolio of work under the theme of Drawings from Life to support their application.Accredited qualifications will be considered upon application.

On successful completion of the course, students may progress to some of the pathways outlined below.

  • HNC Art and Design SCQF Level 7 at Borders College
Employment opportunities in this vocational area that are applicable to the units undertaken in this course, such as:
  • Art Gallery Assistant
  • Design Assistant

Applications will be reviewed by the curriculum team and candidates will be invited to interview to follow up on the information contained within to confirm suitability. A full, detailed personal statement is important at this stage. Candidates are provided with the opportunity to ask further questions about the course and college support services at the interviews.
