Modern Apprenticeship Gamekeeping - Upland/Grouse, Lowland, Deer or Game Rearing- (SCQF Level 5)
The Modern Apprenticeship in Gamekeeping is a work based award and requires attendance at Borders College over a 2 year period. Assessments for this award are also work based. Candidates will attend classes and a tutor and a training consultant will support them throughout the delivery of this Modern Apprenticeship.
Qualifications
There are different routes you can chose from in Gamekeeping. The Routes cover the below: Route A - Upland/Grouse - The candidate must achieve all core mandatory units and the required amount of optional units within the Upland/Grouse pathway. Upland/Grouse consists of 10 mandatory units, and 3 optional unit.Route B - Lowland - The candidate must achieve all core mandatory units and the required amount of optional units within the Lowland pathway. Lowland consists of 9 mandatory units, and 3 optional units. Route C - Deer - The candidate must achieve all core mandatory units and the required amount of optional units within the Deer pathway. Deer consists of 7 mandatory units, and 3 optional units. Route D - Game Rearing - The candidate must achieve all core mandatory units and the required amount of optional units within the Game Rearing pathway. Game Rearing consists of 7 mandatory units, and 3 optional units. To achieve this Modern Apprenticeship candidates must also achieve 5 core skills at SCQF Level 4 in Communication, Working with Others, Problem Solving, ICT & Numeracy. The candidate also has to pass one further accredited, legislatively and nationally recognised short course at a suitable level. E.g. Emergency First Aid at Work, Safe Use of Pesticides (PA1) or All-Terrain Vehicle Handling.
