Student Induction
Special arrangements for the start of your course
To help protect you and our staff from the risk created by Covid-19, your induction experience with the college will start this year with an induction video call with your course tutor or lecturer.
You will not need to attend the college in-person to participate in your induction video call.
This page will guide you through everything you need to do to prepare for and join your induction video call.

Your induction video call will take place over Microsoft Teams. To attend the call you will need to:
• Have access to a suitable digital learning device and internet connection.

• Download and install the Microsoft Teams app on your digital learning device.

• Accept an email invitation to your induction video call that has been sent to your college student email address.

1 - Check your personal email address (that you used to apply online for your college course and accept your offer) for an email titled “Welcome to your Borders College IT Account” that will have your login details.
2 - Click on the student portal link – https://portal.borderscollege.ac.uk/mybc/
3 - Click the Office 365 link - https://portal.office.com
4 - Sign in to Office 365
5 - Click the Teams icon, then the profile picture in the top right and ‘Download the desktop app’. Then run/install the downloaded file.
6 - When the Teams app launches, enter your login details and password
7 - Go back to Microsoft Teams in your browser - click the ‘waffle’ icon in the top left and select Outlook
8 - This is where you will find your Induction Video Call invitation email once your course tutor or lecturer has sent it. Inductions will be happening between Mon 7th – Fri 10th Sept. You will receive an invitation in the week before.
• Click the tick box to accept.
9 - To see your calendar and join the meeting at the right time click the ‘calendar’ icon in Teams, then the event and ‘Join’
