Borders College is delighted to announce its recently renewed status as a disability confident employer.
Disability Confident organisations across the UK play a leading role in changing behaviour and cultures in their businesses, networks and communities, and are committed to becoming inclusive employers.
The Disability Confident scheme exists to help employers recruit and retain great people by drawing from the widest possible pool of talent, employing excellent staff who are skilled, loyal and hardworking, and creating a positive working environment where all employees are treated fairly.
As a disability confident employer, Borders College is recognised as going the extra mile to make sure it is inclusive of disabled people. This includes a demonstrated commitment to providing inclusive and accessible recruitment processes, creating an inclusive and accessible working environment, supporting employees to manage their disabilities or health conditions, making sure those who are sick or absent from work are well supported, and ensuring there are no barriers to the development and progression of disabled staff.
Amy Brydon, Equalities Officer at Borders College says commented:
“Being able to recruit and retain a diverse group of staff is key to making good and inclusive decisions, and it also makes your organisation way more dynamic. We know the value that disabled people bring to Borders College and we don’t want there to be any barrier to anyone getting to work with us.
“We recently took part in a research project that specifically looked at how inclusive we were to disabled people. We looked at things like our recruitment processes and organisational culture. From this research, we were able to make some recommendations to take forward. We hope to continue this work to make Borders College an even more inclusive place to work and study.”
