A group of Borders College staff recently took part in the first-ever Choose College Virtual Showcase, giving prospective students the chance to chat with them and find out what exciting opportunities the College had to offer.
Organised by the College Development Network (CDN), the sector-wide event saw Borders College staff, Darren Burns, Katharine Mathison, Lesley Anderson, Veronica Blackwood, Jimmy Louth, Mary Thomson, Joan Cairney and Glen Turnbull join 18 other colleges from across Scotland, with each designated their own virtual exhibition stand for people to come in and visit.
Designed to inspire and engage, the event also provided prospective students with an opportunity to hear from keynote speakers and learn more about courses, levels of study, progression routes, careers, apprenticeships and general college life, including wellbeing and services to assist their learning.
Borders College Marketing Officer Glen Turnbull, who was part of the Borders College team, commented:
“Like many other businesses, colleges have had to adapt to changing climate during the pandemic and, giving physical careers events have been put on hold, this was an excellent opportunity for us to speak with students, parents, carers and teachers.
“A collective effort from both the organisers and our staff saw our virtual stand looking great on the day and we were delighted to have been part of this ‘first of a kind’ event.”
Although attendance numbers were lower than expected, the event was hailed as a success in terms of getting the message out there that colleges are doing more than ever to help us through the pandemic and that choosing college is an excellent option for anyone wishing to learn, upskill, retrain or simply to do something they love.
