Borders College Department of Enterprise and Business Innovation (DEBI) recently delivered the Confident Communications course for Borders-based support group Streets Ahead, as part of their Flexible Workforce Development (Phase 2 SME) funded training plan.
The aim was to enable individuals to empower themselves, grow personally and effect changes in their lives through assertiveness.
Candidates Leah Lauder, Dave Johnson, Melissa Porter, Lesley Ingles, David Mercer and Lorraine Morecroft attended the online, three-hour session via Microsoft Teams.
On completion, they were able to recognise their own behaviour in specific situations, define assertiveness and build a practice of continuous improvement into the workplace.
Comments from some of the candidates included:
“There’s nothing that could have been done better, the trainer was very good.”
“Excellent course, all staff reported enjoying it.”
Streets Ahead have been supporting people in the Borders for over 30 years. During that time, they have gained a reputation for supporting people with learning disabilities. More recently, their support has extended to working with people with mental health problems and people with dementia.
