Student Isla Simpson’s commitment and dedication to her studies and supporting children in the workplace has been commended by her peers after she recently completed the Social Services Children & Young People SCQF2 course.

After leaving school, Isla volunteered at her local nursery, Seashells Nursery in Eyemouth. Impressed with her efforts, her employer decided to put her forward for the course, and she hasn’t looked back.

Initially, Isla was apprehensive after not having had a great experience at school and having dyslexia, but she met with her assessor regularly and came well-prepared for her sessions, which boosted her confidence.

Over the seven months she studied, her ability to think creatively, work as a member of her team, and support the children in her care shone through.

Isla said:

“I enjoyed doing the course. I was nervous at the beginning, but I found I was able to do all the work, and I feel much more confident now. I really enjoy working in a nursery.”

Isla’s Line Manager, Miriam Lindsay, commented:

“Well done on completing your SVQ6 Isla. You have overcome lots of challenges, and we are all very proud of you.”

Isla’s Assessor at College, Victoria Anderson, said:

“Isla worked very hard to complete her course in the allotted time and will be an asset to any setting in the future. Well done Isla!”
